Summer Reading Assignment
Meet Your Teacher

Hello, Rising 10th Graders!

To prepare for English 10, please complete the following:

1. Review "How to Annotate" including the rubric for grading on the last page.

2. Print or save the short story "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker and the poem "Maps" by Yesenia Montilla.

3. Read and annotate the short story and poem.  You may annotate by hand on a printed copy or annotate electronically.  Annotate by highlighting certain words or phrases you think are important, find interesting, or have questions about.

4. Watch the video Genetics.

5. Complete the associated writing tasks in one Google Doc.  Please share the doc with me (proncone@dwight.global):

- Write an 8-10 sentence paragraph summarizing the video.

- From the point of view of your genes, describe who you are.

Your first assignments for the school year will be to upload these documents, and I will grade your annotations and writing.

Welcome to English 10!  My teaching history started back in 2006 after graduating from college and moving away from my home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  I am now starting my fifteenth year in the education profession and my third year with Dwight Global.

A little about me:

I like to write and watch movies. If something is nerdy, there is a good chance I dig it (ie comics, superheroes, fantasy, video games, etc.). I try to stay active and healthy, but Netflix is so much easier and fun, haha.  I am open-minded and always want people to feel accepted.

There are two fur babies that call me dad, Brody and Jeter. They are wacky and lovable. And I am married to my best friend and partner in crime, Paul (yes, we both have the same name...it was only a little weird at first).

I look forward to getting to know all of you a lot better this year. Never hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
